Bye-bye August and helllloooooo September.
I love September: my birthday is this month, it starts the fall season and festivities, and temperatures (usually) start to fall to a comfortable level. Oscar movie season usually starts this month.
There’s a lot I’m looking forward to this month and I’m going to try a slight formatting change. There’ll be just two categories for everything — Watch/Read/Play or Wait. Meaning I’m either ready to watch/read/play it as soon as possible or I'll wait and catch up with it in my own time.
Let me know what you think!

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice | 9/6 | Theaters
After a family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her teenage daughter, Astrid, accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife.
Who knows how good this will actually be, but early reviews are generally favorable and I’m honestly here for some Burton mayhem and Keaton antics. I love that a good chunk of the cast is returning and while I don’t really care for Jenna Ortega, I don’t care that she’s present.
The Front Room | 9/6 | Theaters
Everything goes to hell for newly-pregnant Belinda after her mother-in-law moves in. As the diabolical guest tries to get her claws on the child, Belinda must draw the line somewhere…
The trailer makes this look good and I fell in love with Kathryn HUnter as a performer with 2021‘s The Tragedy of Macbeth.
The Mother of All Lies | 9/6 | Theaters - Limited
On a handmade set re-creating her Casablanca neighborhood, a young Moroccan filmmaker enlists family and friends to help unearth the troubling lies built into her childhood.
A critic I love and trust gave a glowing review of this and the concept is incredibly intriguing. I hope I can make it to a screening, I’m sure it’s going to be extremely limited.
All Shall Be Well | 9/20 | Theaters - Limited
When her partner Pat unexpectedly dies, Angie is left to worry about the flat in which the couple lived together for over 30 years. Supported by her chosen family, Angie begins a later-life journey into emancipation.
This looks beautiful shot, performed, and written.
Eureka | 9/20 | Theaters - Limited
A cowboy arrives in a village in search of his daughter, a native policewoman arrests various offenders in a snowy landscape, while her niece, a basketball coach, reunites with her grandfather for a decisive journey that will shape her future, a bird flies through time and space and begins to enter the minds and dreams of a native tribe in a the Amazon forest.
An interesting looking Western and Viggo Mortensen is in it. That’s all I need.
The Substance | 9/20 | Theaters
A fading celebrity decides to use a black market drug, a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself.
The trailer looks wild and I’m so here for a weirdo performance from Dennis Quaid.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story | 9/21 | Theaters - Limited
Never-before-seen home movies and extraordinary personal archives reveal how Christopher Reeve went from unknown actor to iconic movie star as the ultimate screen superhero. He learned the true meaning of heroism as an activist after suffering a tragic accident that left him quadriplegic and dependent on a ventilator to breathe.
I will definitely be crying during this one. Some early buzz says it could be the documentary to beat this Oscar season. I think it looks incredible and I’m very excited to finally get to see this.
Azrael | 9/27 | Theaters
In a world where no one speaks, a devout female hunts down a young woman who has escaped her imprisonment. Recaptured by its ruthless leaders, Azrael is due to be sacrificed to pacify an ancient evil deep within the surrounding wilderness.
This could go either way for me. I’m hoping it’s a fun spooky time with some cool gore and action.
Megalopolis | 9/27 | Theaters
Genius artist Cesar Catilina seeks to leap the City of New Rome into a utopian, idealistic future, while his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.
There’s no way I’m not seeing this in the theater. I don’t think it’ll be good, but it’s going to be a spectacle to behold and I must be there.
My Old Ass | 9/27 | Theaters
An 18th birthday mushroom trip brings free-spirited Elliott face-to-face with her wisecracking 39-year-old self. But when Elliott’s “old ass” starts handing out warnings about what her younger self should and shouldn’t do, Elliott realizes she has to rethink everything about family, love, and what’s becoming a transformative summer.
The trailer looks good and I love Aubrey Plaza. Sometimes that’s really all it takes.

Buried Deep and Other Stories | 9/17 | Naomi Novik
From the dragon-filled Temeraire series and the gothic magical halls of the Scholomance trilogy, through the realms next door to Spinning Silver and Uprooted, this stunning collection takes us from fairy tale to fantasy, myth to history, and mystery to science fiction as we travel through Naomi Novik’s most beloved stories.
I love a good short story collection and these sound wonderful! The cover is also very eye-catching to me and drew me in before I knew anything else about it.
Graveyard Shift | 9/24 | M.L. Rio
Every night, in the college’s ancient cemetery, five people cross paths as they work the late shift: a bartender, a rideshare driver, a hotel receptionist, the steward of the derelict church that looms over them, and the editor-in-chief of the college paper, always in search of a story.
One dark October evening in the defunct churchyard, they find a hole that wasn’t there before. A fresh, open grave where no grave should be. But who dug it, and for whom?
Before they go their separate ways, the gravedigger returns. As they trail him through the night, they realize he may be the key to a string of strange happenings around town that have made headlines for the last few weeks—and that they may be closer to the mystery than they thought.
Another great cover and the premise is really cool! Also, at 144 pages, I’m more than happy to give this a go.
The Hitchcock Hotel | 9/24 | Stephanie Wrobel
Alfred Smettle is not your average Hitchcock fan. He is the founder, owner, and manager of The Hitchcock Hotel, a sprawling Victorian house in the White Mountains dedicated to the Master of Suspense. There, Alfred offers his guests round-the-clock film screenings, movie props, and memorabilia in every room, plus an aviary with fifty crows.
To celebrate the hotel’s first anniversary, he invites his former best friends from his college Film Club for a reunion. He hasn’t spoken to any of them in sixteen years, not after what happened.
But who better than them to appreciate Alfred’s creation? And to help him finish it.
After all, no Hitchcock set is complete without a body.
Hell yeah! This book sounds dope! A thriller/mystery surrounding a Hitchcock stan? Yes, please! I hope it’s even half as good as it sounds.
Odyssey | 9/26 | Stephen Fry
The final book in Stephen Fry's acclaimed internationally bestselling Greek myths series telling the story of The Odyssey - can a hero find his way home?
Follow Odysseus after he leaves the fallen city of Troy and takes ten long dramatic years - battling monsters, the temptations of goddesses and suffering the curse of Poseidon - to voyage home to his wife Penelope on the island of Ithaca.
I’m a sucker for a classic adaptation and I’m very intrigued by Stephen Fry’s involvement. The cover is great, and the original epic story is great, and I really want to see what he does with it.

There’s an old PS2 QUidditch game that I really, really love despite not being into Harry Potter and this seems to capture some of the magic of that one. I’m super excited to see how this one compares, but if it ends up not being great I have a copy of that beloved PS2 edition.

This looks like an incredible amount of fun. I’ve had no real interaction with the Warthammer series at all, but if MR. Henry Cavill says it’s cool, I’ll believe him.

I love the Epic Mickey games and I’m very excited to see a modern remaster of it. I hated the Wii controls, but loved the game so hopefully, I can just enjoy it and not worry about the motion control gimmicks. It’s a fun game that pays homage to Disney’s history while being an awesome action platformer.
