On the Butcher's Block

On the Butcher's Block

Coming Soon!

Nov 09, 2025

It’s been a while since I wrote something on here and last I did write I was leaving Substack and making a Wordpress. I did and it was fun but honestly…? It was difficult, I didn’t really enjoy the experience.

I also was fairly busy with planning a wedding and more recently with getting a new job. The wedding was amazing and just what my wife and I wanted and the new job is a huge blessing to me (fully remote!!!).

I was telling my wife that I want to get back to this and so here I am crawling back to Substack.

I want to do something a little different this time around though. A lot of my posts were reviews, which are fun to write, but deep down, I know it’s hard to make something and it felt off many times to be writing bad about something. Same with the podcast my friend and I did. I ended up not enjoying that as much as I thought I would. I don’t think I was born to be a critic.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love to discuss my thoughts on whether something worked for me or not. But maybe not here.

Instead I want to focus more on what I was doing with The OeuvReport. I loved the research part of that project and writing more on the history of the art rather than criticism of the art.

I also personally enjoy reading more in depth stories on movies. I don’t find I actually read many reviews. I have a couple podcasts I like for reviews. But that’s about it. And I think I’d rather write things that I would also like to read as a consumer.

And as always, this is more for my own enjoyment, I don’t plan on turning on pledges or payments. I just want to practice writing and share some things I love.

All that is to say, if you enjoyed supporting just by reading previously, keep an eye out here.

‘Til Next Time,

Colton
